Included in this auction are three pieces:
1) Original Cover Photograph
- The original photographic transparency of the bear head used on the front cover of the 1982 Bear Archery Catalog
2) Actual Printer's Proof
- A black & white printer's proof of the entire 1982 Bear Archery catalog used in the pre-press and approval process of this catalog before it went to press. This proof has final copy and image corrections marked inside in red. It is a black & white proof because all the color had already been approved.
3) One copy of the final printed catalog of the 1982 Bear Archer Catalog
See the pictures in the auction for some of the corrections. Photos will show the pre-press printer's proof page next to the same page in the final printed catalog. You can what was wrong and the final corrected page.
Authenticity of the material offered in this auction
- My family owned the company that was the pre-press and printing vendor for Bear Archer back in the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.  We worked directly with the Bear Advertising Department and their graphic designers, illustrators, copy writers and photographers, etc. in their Grayling, Michigan corporate headquarters and then in Gainsville, Florida when they moved there.  We produced their lithographic film, approval proofs, printing and press proofing out of our printing plants in both Fort Wayne, IN and Knoxville, TN.  We produced all their brochures, catalogs, specification sheets, advertisements and other collateral advertising materials.  Our partnership continued through all the years listed above and my father handled the Bear Archery account.  He personally was the sales/service representative that handled the Bear account going over jobs with the Bear advertising/marketing people, showing them proofs, getting corrections/changes and approvals directly with them in the 1960's through the late 1980's. If you're familiar with the book "I Remember Papa Bear" by Dick Lattimer you can find our company, Precision Litho, in Fort Wayne, Indiana mentioned (Mr. Lattimer called us Precision Lithograph but we went by Precision Litho).
